PKF Lawyers, Manitoba’s Law Firm, is seeking a full-time family law Legal Assistant to join our growing and dynamic team in our Winnipeg downtown location. Our culture is built on professional excellence, collaboration, and a strong sense of pride in the services we offer.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide administrative and legal assistance primarily in the area of family law
  • Efficient and accurate transcription of dictation
  • General assistant duties including filing, organizing files, scheduling appointments
  • Preparing, editing correspondence and legal documents in accordance with instructions, or independently, depending upon nature of document
  • Interacting with clients, opposing counsel, court staff and other professionals
  • Drafting legal documents with written and/or verbal instructions provided by lawyer and using precedents
  • Scheduling and diarizing court dates and filing dates
  • Strong knowledge of basic legal concepts, principles and terminology
  • Organize, monitor, diarize and manage files
  • Monitor phone calls and incoming mail
  • Day to day administrative tasks such as conflict searches, opening and closing files, entering time in CosmoLex, preparing invoices and receipt of general and trust deposits
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned from time to time

Essential Skills:

  • Minimum 3 years experience in a law firm, preferably with family law experience
  • Strong computer skills (i.e. Microsoft Office, Outlook & Adobe)
  • Ability to prioritize, multitask and take instructions
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Deadline and detail orientated with strong attention to detail and proofreading
  • Courteous and professional
  • Solid organization skills with the ability to meet all deadlines
  • Be able to work independently and also work effectively as part of a team
