PKF Lawyers, Manitoba’s Law Firm, is seeking a full-time family law Legal Assistant to join our growing and dynamic team in our Winnipeg downtown location. Our culture is built on professional excellence, collaboration, and a strong sense of pride in the services we offer.
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Provide administrative and legal assistance primarily in the area of family law
- Efficient and accurate transcription of dictation
- General assistant duties including filing, organizing files, scheduling appointments
- Preparing, editing correspondence and legal documents in accordance with instructions, or independently, depending upon nature of document
- Interacting with clients, opposing counsel, court staff and other professionals
- Drafting legal documents with written and/or verbal instructions provided by lawyer and using precedents
- Scheduling and diarizing court dates and filing dates
- Strong knowledge of basic legal concepts, principles and terminology
- Organize, monitor, diarize and manage files
- Monitor phone calls and incoming mail
- Day to day administrative tasks such as conflict searches, opening and closing files, entering time in CosmoLex, preparing invoices and receipt of general and trust deposits
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned from time to time
Essential Skills:
- Minimum 3 years experience in a law firm, preferably with family law experience
- Strong computer skills (i.e. Microsoft Office, Outlook & Adobe)
- Ability to prioritize, multitask and take instructions
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Deadline and detail orientated with strong attention to detail and proofreading
- Courteous and professional
- Solid organization skills with the ability to meet all deadlines
- Be able to work independently and also work effectively as part of a team
