Position Overview
PKF Lawyers, Manitoba’s Law Firm, seeking a highly organized, professional, and compassionate full time Legal Assistant to join our team at Selkirk office. Our culture is built on professional excellence, collaboration, and a strong sense of pride in the services we offer.
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Estate Administration
- File Management: Independently manage estate administration files from intake to completion.
- Estate Planning: Prepare and format estate planning documents including wills, trusts, powers of attorney, healthcare directives, and beneficiary designations.
- Estate Administration: Assist with the probate and administration process, including preparing Applications for Grant of Probate or Letters of Administration.
- Document Management: Oversee the preparation, execution, and filing of legal documents at the Court of King’s Bench while maintaining rigorous oversight of limitation periods and court deadlines.
- Client Relations: Serve as a primary point of contact for clients and beneficiaries, providing empathetic and professional communication during sensitive times.
- Financial Coordination: Manage estate finances by preparing detailed accountings and statements of receipts and disbursements, while overseeing the settlement of estate debts and tax obligations.
- Administrative Support: Manage lawyer calendars, schedule client signings, and ensure all documents are executed and stored according to firm and Law Society standards.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Education: Legal Assistant Diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution.
- Experience: A minimum of two years of specialized experience in Wills & Estates is preferred
- Legal Knowledge: Strong familiarity with the Wills Act and Manitoba Court of King’s Bench Rules regarding probate.
- Technical Proficiency: Advanced skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and legal accounting/file management software.
- Soft Skills: Exceptional attention to detail, strong proofreading skills, and the ability to manage a high volume of files independently.
