Douglas J. Johnston received his Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Manitoba.
He prides himself on his ability to explain often complex legal issues to clients in plain English.
He is the only practicing lawyer in Manitoba who holds degrees in both journalism (Carleton University, 1976) and law (University of Manitoba, 1981). Prior to attending law school, and entering the practice of law in 1982, he worked, variously, in corporate public relations, marketing, and banking.
He is the published author of over 1,000 articles, columns, editorials, op-ed pieces and book reviews on legal, historico-legal, and other issues. His writing has appeared in the Winnipeg Free Press, the Globe and Mail, the National Post, Maclean’s Magazine, Canada’s National History Magazine, and Quill & Quire.
He is a past editorial writer for the Winnipeg Free Press, past columnist for Canstar Community News Limited (published in Winnipeg as The Lance, The Herald, and The Metro) and past legal-affairs columnist for Impact magazine (publication of Canadian Association of Independent Financial Advisers (CAIFA).
