Equal parts lawyer, father, teacher, fitness instructor and music fan, Tim is fiercely loyal to his clients and commits wholeheartedly to all of his endeavours. In Tim’s view the work of a lawyer is more than practicing law for its own sake. Like the timeless recordings of the great jazz players, it’s all about finding the right tools, connecting with those around us, grabbing hold of the project, and taking flight.

Following in his father’s footsteps, Tim obtained his Bachelor of Laws Degree from the University of Manitoba in 1986 and was called to the Manitoba Bar in June 1987. He joined Pullan Kammerloch Frohlinger in January 2007 – after Tom Frohlinger led him to believe that doing so would make him “thinner, taller, smarter, richer, happier, hipper, leaner, meaner, keener … and able to do those newspaper cryptoquote puzzles in one go”.

Tim concentrates in the areas of business law and entrepreneurship, particularly in connection with the needs of closely-held, small and medium sized businesses in Manitoba. As the second-youngest of five children, he has a natural affinity for the dynamics, politics and emotions of family-run businesses in particular, and acts for many second and third generation enterprises. He has extensive experience with business start-ups, corporate organization, shareholder and partnership relations, business acquisitions, commercial real estate transactions, leasing, secured financings, and the planning and administration of estates. Tim’s clients also include a number of not-for-profit organizations and community groups.

Tim is a Sessional Lecturer for the Faculty of Law at the University of Manitoba, teaching the corporate law course in second year. Recalling his own years in university, he strives to make the experience as meaningful and memorable for his students as his teachers did for him. Tim encourages students to consider the law in the context of the real world, the politics of the day, the personalities of the practitioners and the real needs of their clients. Working outside the box, Tim reads a little poetry, plays a little music, and, on at least one occasion, even cut open a lemon (it was Pablo Neruda’s idea…).

Tim has served as a seminar leader in the Corporate & Commercial, Ethics and Practice Issues Sections of the Law Society of Manitoba’s Bar Admission Course. He was also a member of the committee reviewing changes to The Corporations Act of Manitoba prior to their implementation.

Tim is a proud resident of the City of Winnipeg and cares passionately about the City’s future. In addition to carrying on a busy practice, he has given countless hours to community endeavours.

The local music scene is especially near and dear to Tim’s heart. He has been an active member of the Board of Jazz Winnipeg Inc. since 1995 and served two terms as President. Tim has also served on the board of the Urban Idea Centre, the Board of Springers Gymnastics Club Inc., and the Residents’ Committee of the Manitoba/Winnipeg Community Revitalization Program in Fort Rouge.

For many years, Tim has been teaching high-intensity group fitness classes three times a week at the Downtown YMCA-YWCA - as an unpaid volunteer.

Tim has two teenage daughters, who never let him take himself too seriously, and of whom he is intensely and enormously proud.
