Is there life after Economics? Markus Buchart, says there is. It's called civil litigation at Pullan Kammerloch Frohlinger. Markus came to practice with us after a previous career as an economist and ten years experience as a lawyer.
Born to German immigrants in Winnipeg, Markus earned two degrees in Economics, a B.A. (Hons.) at the University of Manitoba and a M.A. at McGill University in Montréal. As an economist, he worked in the Manitoba government from 1986 until 1992 mostly in the Finance Department, working primarily in the areas of tax policy and federal-provincial fiscal relations. He ended his civil service career with a stint in the Environment Department working on economic policies to promote environmental protection.
That's where Markus' interest in law grew. Returning to the University of Manitoba, he earned his LL.B. in 1995 and was admitted to the Manitoba Bar the following year. His general practice in early years covered most areas of the law, but in recent years has focused mostly on civil litigation.
Markus has appeared in all provincial and federal courts with jurisdiction in Manitoba other than the Supreme Court of Canada. As well, he has appeared in various administrative tribunals including the Public Utility Board, Labour Board, Municipal Board, Automobile Injury Compensation Appeal Commission, and Winnipeg Board of Revision.
