Herb H. Rempel
B.A., LL.B.
Herb Rempel was born and raised in Winnipeg. His parents, Hermann and Susan, immigrated to Canada from Europe in the aftermath of WWII and settled in the Winnipeg suburb of North Kildonan, which Herb still calls home.
German was the primary language of communication in the Rempel household during Herb’s formative years and it’s no surprise that Herb developed a knack for the language and a good understanding of Low-German, which is still widely spoken by Mennonites of Russian descent around the world. These language skills are of great assistance to many clients who seek Herb’s services not only in Winnipeg but also the satellite offices that PKF operates in the southern Manitoba communities of Steinbach and Niverville.
Herb has a special interest in adoption work and is often called to speak on this subject at the Law Faculty, the Bar Association and on open-line programs. Herb’s main focus is corporate and commercial law and estate planning but he is not a stranger to real estate and probate work.
In 1981, Herb completed a German Language Studies Course at the Goethe-Institute in Munich and then started an undergraduate degree program at the University of Winnipeg, and won gold medals in both German Studies and History. He gained his law degree at the University of Manitoba in 1987 and was called to the bar in 1988. He did a stint as a clerk with the Chief Justices of the Manitoba Court of Appeal, and completed his articling year with Canadian Pacific in their Law Department before joining a Winnipeg firm as an associate, practicing civil, family and criminal litigation. He joined Loewen Martens & Rempel in 1991 and in 12 years there built a wide-ranging practice where he shifted emphasis to real estate, estate planning and corporate commercial files. It was here he also developed his special interest in adoption law.
Herb began his relationship (as a co-venturer) with PKF in 2004 after he and Frohlinger discovered they made a good team in cooperatively serving the needs of a booming corporate client that went from rags to riches in a very short time and whose need for legal services was quite significant.
Herb has served as a director of both the Concordia Hospital and Winnipeg Regional Health Authority and was a sessional lecturer at the University of Manitoba law School for two academic terms. Further, he also served as a director for Adoption Options (Manitoba) Inc and currently serves as chair of Manitobans for German Language Education (MGLE) Inc. Herb is past Chair of the Board of Trustees of Sargent Avenue Mennonite Church in Winnipeg and is currently serving as Chair of the Personnel Committee.
Herb Lives in Winnipeg with his wife Lorraine and their three kids, who all dote on Sadie, the family dog.
