Herb Rempel's upbringing influenced his need to help others.
With much of his scholarship built around the German and low-German language skills of his Mennonite heritage, he brings valuable language skills to his special interests in adoption, estate planning and corporate and commercial law. He was called to the bar in 1988 and joined PKF as a co-venturer on January 1, 2004.
Herb was raised and educated in Winnipeg, and completed a German Language Studies Course in 1981 from the Goethe-Institute in Munich. After completing that course he launched upon his undergraduate degree studies at the University of Winnipeg, and won gold medals in both German Studies and History. He gained his law degree at the University of Manitoba in 1987 and was called to the bar in 1988. He did a stint as a clerk with the Chief Justices of the Manitoba Court of Appeal, and completed his articling year with the Canadian Pacific Railway law department before joining a Winnipeg firm as an associate, practicing civil, family and criminal litigation. He joined Loewen Martens & Rempel in 1991 and in 12 years there built a wide-ranging practice where he shifted emphasis to real estate, estate planning and corporate commercial activity. It was here he also developed his interest in adoption law. His relationship (as a co-venturer) with PKF began in 2004 when he and Frohlinger discovered they made a good team in creatively handling hot pharmaceutical work. The exercise, with many millions of dollars at stake, was a feisty battle pitting Big Parma and traditionalists against the creativeness of youth and new technology. The politics of it ranged from tiny rural Manitoba towns to U.S. state capitols; from Provincial legislatures and Parliament, to the U.S. Congress. Rempel's service interests outside work have ranged extensively with hospital directorships.
He has served as a director of both the Concordia Hospital and Winnipeg Regional Health Authority and was a sessional lecturer at the University of Manitoba law School for two academic terms. Over a ten year period he also served as a director for Adoption Options (Manitoba) Inc. He currently serves as chairman of Manitobans for German Language Education (MGLE) Inc. and is past Vice-Chair of the Board of Trustees of Sargent Avenue Mennonite Church, Winnipeg, MB.
Herb is also the managing director of the PKF Law office locations in Steinbach and Niverville. Herb Lives in Winnipeg with his wife Lorraine and their three kids, who all dote on the family dog, who is called Winslow.
